Hey Blasters! So as you may have read, I had a really bad experience with one of Shipyard Brewing Company's beers. I was in Florida and purchased a 6-pack. After drinking some, I felt very ill and could tell it was definitely bad beer that I am guessing is caused by retailer mishandling, which I will discuss this issue in a later post.
So anyways, I decided to contact Shipyard to let them know about the issue. I expected to hear from them a few days later with a general apology that any company would give. I was surprised at the response I got. I actually got a reply email from them about an hour after I emailed them! Not only did they get back to me quickly, but it was the VP himself that emailed me back! This was the email reply:

"Hello Hart,
First, thank you for taking the time to write. For the life of me I don’t know where to start. Possibly or probably the beer was old. Do you still have some bottles? The code date will either be stamped on the shoulder of the glass or grooves are etched into the paper label indicating best by dates. And…if you have any full bottles remaining it would be very helpful to us to test
That said…while old beer is not very tasteful it still should not make you ill. I hope the beer was not in some other way contaminated. Thankfully we have not had any other complaints so we are hopeful this is an unfortunate exception.
We would love to send you some fresh beer from the brewery with a few of our other styles of beer as well.
Once again….I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your disappointment.
Bruce Forsley

I was so happy with this response as I can tell they really care about their brews and their clients! This type of customer service makes me really want to support this brewery!
They actually sent me out some beer all the way from Maine to California! When I got the beer, I could tell they took great care and pride in their work as it was packaged with care and excellence. I pulled the bottles out and here is a picture of what they sent me! 10 different brews! (XXXX IPA, Melonhead, Smashed Blueberry, Export, Estival, Smashed Pumpkin, Summer Ale, Monkey Fist IPA, Sea Dog Wild Blueberry, and Sea Dog Sunfish)
SO MUCH BEER!!!!!! |
I was so excited to see that this brewery has some affiliation with Sea Dog! I have actually had this brew before and was planning on giving it a Blast Review, so I am very excited for these! The brews look and sound awesome! So I plan on reviewing each one of them starting with my nemesis the "Summer Ale". I am hoping that it was just bad luck on my first go-around and this time I will enjoy the true taste of summer!
So anyways, thank you Bruce and Shipyard for your excellent customer service and making this unfortunate experience a very pleasant one indeed! I honestly would have been happy with the simple apology but they went the extra mile to make sure that I got the true taste of their brews! I hope this is a great start to a new adventure with this brewery! If I am ever in Maine, this brewery will definitely be a stop on my trip!
