LabelSummer Ale
Type: American Wheat Beer

Label Description: Shipyard Summer Ale is a traditional American wheat beer. With its inviting color and mellow malted wheat falvor, it’s sure to please those looking for a clean, cool taste sensation on long, hot summer days.

Price: $8.00 for a 6-pack at Walmart.

Aroma: Slightly spicy with a hint of citrus.

Look: Medium golden color that is very clear with a small head.

First Sip: So as you all know, last time I tried this brew, I was not overly fond of it. It had some off-flavor that I can only associate with a bad brew. My guess is that the retailer mishandled the beer and it went bad. So, I am giving this a second try thanks to the wonderful folks at Shipyard Brewing Company, which you can read about that experience on this blog post! Anyways, on to the brew. This time the beer smells much  fresher. Still slightly spicy and you can definitely smell the citrus notes in it. I take my first sip and I am pleasantly surprised. Nothing like last time. It tastes fresh, clean with a great summer beer flavor. You get a slight citrus hit with a light, crisp finish. I think this is the true flavor that Shipyard was searching for. Great first impression.

Ice cold Shipyard Summer Ale after a long day at work!
Middle of the Blast: Alright, middle of the brew! I have really enjoyed this one after a long day at work. Still very refreshing and maintains its carbonation even after being poured in a glass. It still has a different hop flavor that I am not used to that I can only accredit to the Saphir Hops, which as I stated in a past Blast, is a relatively new strain grown to be more pest and disease resistant that is typically used in German brews such as Pilsners, Lagers, and Belgian Whites.  It has a described aroma of mild clean citrus with a hint of tangerine. This is the only thing I can think of that is causing this flavor, but I honestly can't complain too much because it is still a pretty good beer.

Last Sip: I am almost finished with this one and I wish I had another! It has stayed crisp and refreshing this entire time. As I get closer to the bottom, my pallet is getting more and more citrus flavors, which is welcomed for this summer brew! I am also getting more hits of the hoppy flavors! Last sip of the blast and it is even better than the first!

Overall: Overall, I like this one. I attribute the last review to a bad batch most likely from mishandling by the retailer, which is very easy to do in Florida. I am betting they left it out in the heat and humidity and it ruined the brew. Oh well, because this one is great! I could definitely see this one being great by a pool or at the beach during a hot summer day! I am very happy that I decided to give Shipyard another shot and thank them for being so great thought this entire process! I can't wait to try some more of their great brews!

Rating: **** After this second try, I can definitely give this one a 4-star Blast Rating! Good job Shipyard, can't wait to try some more!
